This summer's Book of the Month is Mural Island by Katie Yamasaki. Bursting with color, creativity, and heart, this inspiring picture book follows a young artist whose imagination transforms a shared space into a vibrant community mural. As neighbors come together to paint, create, and connect, the story highlights the power of art to bring people closer, celebrate diverse voices, and inspire positive change. With expressive illustrations and a message rooted in collaboration, belonging, and self-expression, Mural Island invites readers of all ages to see how even a single brushstroke can help build a stronger, more connected community.

Line4Line’s summer Book of the Month Program continues to empower youth as change-makers. Line4Line creates a Reader’s Guide & Activity Bookmark available with each book. This month, we invite you to think about how art can shape the spaces we move through and the feelings those spaces leave behind. How might a mural you create share something meaningful about you through color, shape, or symbol? As you design your mural, think about how public art can shift the mood of a space and invite others to pause, notice, or wonder. What story would your mural tell to someone passing by for the first time?
